AIDIA

Luis

Eastern Lawa

Eastern Lawa Sunday morning children's church at KongLoi village with kids.

Dongin and Jin (a Korean couple who live in the area and serve on the Eastern Lawa translation team) have two children's outreaches running on Saturday and Sunday mornings in two villages. Between 12 to 30 kids are showing up to hear Bible stories and learn Christian songs.

Praise God for the recent completion of a new building in BorSangae village that is specifically for outreach to the children. Pray they will reach the children there with the message of Jesus.

For the month of July, Greg Blok, project facilitator, plans to accompany the translation team to a workshop where they plan to get a consultant check for the Book of James. This will help the translation get ready for publication. Please pray for the team’s travels and for the logistics and preparation for the trip. Pray for two  people (who are not on the translation team) who would be willing to travel to the workshop and participate as uninitiated translation testers.

The very first Eastern Lawa Christian that Greg and Rosi Blok met is Dawn*. She moved to Chiang Mai about ten years ago for schooling for her children. She was getting opposition from the non-Christians, so Dawn recently moved back to the village. She has nowhere to stay and is living with Tawan and Jum (translation team members). Tawan is asking for prayer for Dawn to find somewhere to live, and for patience for everyone with the current living situation.

Please pray for literacy work to start back up in the local schools. The schools have not invited the team back this year for further Lawa reading and writing sessions. The team would like to either get back into the two large schools they worked in last year or some new schools. There is also the possibility of adult literacy classes that the team would love to start. Pray for progress with the adult literacy idea as well as the school ministry.

Praise God the book of James is 99% finished and has been sent to the consultant.

AIDIA

Luis Cervantes, Director of AIDIA, shares: “In January, we traveled as a family to the community of Alianza Cristiana [located in the Southern Pastaza Quechua area of the] Peruvian jungle, with the aim of training leaders from various communities. It was a time of great blessing, during which more than 40 leaders were strengthened, and we also had the opportunity to fellowship with teachers, youth, and children.”

Ten Sunday school teachers were trained from six different communities and teaching sessions were held for 80 children focusing on New Testament Stories: The Life of Jesus and His Parables. Praise God for the volunteers from the city of Abancay who came to provide the training and to work with the children.

Luis says, “During the journey, we faced some difficult moments in which we clearly witnessed God’s faithfulness. On the way there, we arrived around 1:00 a.m. at a community where we knew no one. Everything was dark; there was no one waiting for us, nor was there a place for us to stay. Faced with this situation, we decided to wait on the riverbank until dawn. We were concerned about mosquitoes—as they tend to be abundant in that area—but throughout the early morning hours, there were almost none, and we recognized this as a sign of God’s care.

On the return journey, the situation was also complicated. We arrived in Loboyacu in the morning with the intention of catching a boat to San Lorenzo, but not a single one passed by all day. Hours went by, and as night fell, we had nowhere to stay and knew no one. At that moment, a woman approached us and kindly offered to let us stay in her home. Later, a man— whom we also did not know—returned with tents and mattresses so that we could rest. Thus, God provided a safe place to spend the night, just in time. Despite the exhaustion and uncertainty, we were able to see how God was with us at every moment, watching over us and providing exactly what we needed. This journey reminded us that He is always present, even in the midst of difficulties.

Praise God for the recent translation progress in Southern Pastaza Quechua - for the first draft, team check and local speaker check of Matthew through to 2 Corinthians.

(DRC)- Bali-Mba

“It’s been a long time since women participated in literacy class”. Christine was one of a few women who participated in the class in the village of Badjenge.

The translation team shares, “During our class in Badjenge, Pastor Samuel, a village Chief, and other village leaders had invited us to hold another class in the same village. This shows that the community is more motivated by the program's presence.”

Prayer Updates:

  • Completed all the translation steps for the entire Book of Revelations.

  • Printed 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon in April - pray for a time of dedication for the printed copies so they can be distributed.

  • Printed and distributed more than 120 prayer bulletins to churches

  • Added more than 100 words to the illustrated dictionary

  • Maintained one hectare of mandarin trees to help provide funding for the work

What’s next?

  • Consultant check of 1 & 2 Peter in August and 1 - 3 John and Jude in September

  • Resolve the technical difficulties with the website

  • Add 1 & 2 Timothy sermons, along with songs and hymns, to the website

  • Distribute flashcards and record the audio of the above

  • Promote the website and app in online groups, churches and radio stations

  • Revise the Mbane orthography so that it is easy to read and write and easy to learn. Pray for the process of drafting the new orthography and for the translators to be comfortable with it.

  • Publish ten booklets for new readers. Pray for all the steps in the publication and distribution process, and for availability from the translators to approve the text.

Pray with us

  • Thank you for praying for an effective planning session for the next phase of the project. Praise God there is a new plan, it is being followed, and the results show considerable increase in translation consultation and approval of new texts.

  • The cocoa field was ravaged by bushfire. The team plans to resume transplanting new seedlings over the summer months. Pray for a successful harvest and a good sale of the produce in favour of the translation & literacy work.

Wycliffe Thai Foundation

Yon sharing a Bible story at a Cafe Wycliffe event.

Yon is from the Hmong language community. He lived away from home as he earned his bachelor’s degree. Yon then continued his studies at seminary and served the church for several years. Next he applied for a job in Wycliffe Thai Foundation through Director Wat’s suggestion and served as the activity coordinator. When he was serving, he was trained in the craft of Oral Bible Storytelling (OBS). He loved it and has since been promoted to become a “champion” for OBS.

Yon’s story continues - he has since led multiple OBS training sessions for minority language groups in Oshiwa* (a restricted access country in SE Asia). He was sent to start a storytelling project in Joy-cluster* (also restricted access) where he trained five people groups from the southern part of this country. Wycliffe Thai Foundation started a new project for ten minority language groups in the same region and sent Yon to lead this work. Recently, Yon has felt the call of God to move closer to the communities he is serving. For safety reasons, it is not possible for Yon to move directly into a local community, but his family was able to move to a remote city nearby. His plan is to travel to the community often and run cross-training training workshops in Thailand.

Pray with us

  • Praise God that Yon’s church had a mission commissioning service on May 3 for him and his family as they move far from their home and church community.

  • Thank you for praying for Taew as she begins sharing her ministry in the Chinese-Thai church. Praise God that Taew's church will give her 100% support!

  • Pray for the ongoing process of searching for an activity coordinator.

  • Continue to pray for the ongoing process of searching for a new Director. Wycliffe  Thai Foundation will first work on a new vision, as Vision 2025 is finished. The vision must be set before the search for a new Director begins.

  • Pray for a cross-cultural “mission mindset” for the Thai church leaders. In August  2028, the Thai church will celebrate 200 years of the gospel in Thailand. They have set goals of 1,000,000 believers, 10,000 churches and 10,000 pastors by that date.  But there are no goals for equipping missionaries to help with this plan.

  • Praise God that Wycliffe Thai Foundation is seeing the fruit of investing in young people and equipping them for missions.

Northern Thai

Wearing traditional Northern Thai clothing, the young Lanna Literacy and Scripture Engagement team make an engaging and colourful presentation highlighting their outreach in local schools and communities.

Lanna Kid’s Club is a Saturday morning class that provides children with the opportunity to learn Lanna reading and writing alongside English lessons. This combination makes learning both enjoyable and engaging. Bible storytelling is included to nurture their understanding of God’s love and values.

Praise God that some children made the decision to accept Christ and have since continued attending church. Even more encouraging is that some parents attended church for the very first time. This marks a significant step for their families. The team says, “We are deeply grateful to God for His guidance and faithfulness throughout every step of this ministry journey.”

During the Lanna Day of Love event in February, the team was blessed with the opportunity to share God’s love through His Word with children at Ban Mae Puka School. The activities included introducing the Lanna script, games, and storytelling based on the parable of the prodigal son. A highlight of the event was inviting children to participate in a short drama, allowing them to take on roles from the parable. This interactive approach helped them not only understand but also remember and retell the story effectively. Ten teachers and about 90 students joined the program. Feedback from both teachers and students was overwhelmingly positive. They especially enjoyed the drama, as it vividly illustrates a father’s love for his child and reflected the profound love of Jesus Christ for humanity.

Pray with us

- Pray for the teaching ministry in schools and the community - that the Lanna team will be a bridge of God’s love to both students, teachers, and community members and that relationships built will lead them to know Jesus Christ.

- Thank you for praying for opportunities for the team to use Lanna scriptures in their activities and for hearts to respond to the Lord. Praise God He has opened so many doors for the team to serve. Continue to pray for wisdom about which to follow up on, good health and fruit in the lives of the children and adults they are reaching with God's truth.

- Please continue to pray for two more interns - that God will lead the right people who have understanding, a heart for missions, perseverance, and humility.

ᐊᓂᐦᔑᓂᓃᒧᐏᐣ – Anishininiimowin (Oji-Cree)

Matthew Windsor (project facilitator) reports, “Summertime in [Kingfisher Lake] sees a number of ministry events: Northern Youth Programs sends volunteers up, churches sometimes send up volunteers, and the William Winter School of Ministry happens at the Bible camp. The Scott family will be coming as usual and our new supervisor Dan Grove will be coming to teach at the camp. We don’t really know what will hit us any given summer; we just pray for God’s will to be done and that we can use the increased interactions with people for his glory.”

Also pray for Bishop Lydia as spent a month out at the hospital in Sioux Lookout. Pray for her recovery from a blood infection.

Blackfoot

Alice Reed (translation consultant) reports, “One exciting piece of news we can share is that the Gospel of John in Blackfoot has just been reprinted for the first time in nearly 50 years! This was a high priority request which allowed Blackfoot believers to begin to use existing Scripture portions immediately within their communities.

In addition to cleaning up and re-typesetting the written text, translators processed hours of audio recordings in order to produce an accompanying audio Scripture app. Copies of John are on their way to Alberta at this very moment. There are a few technical issues delaying the launch of the app, but we pray they will be resolved soon.”

Maskwacis Cree Nation - Trauma Healing (April 22 to May 27)

Robyn Kunz (Trauma Healing facilitator) reports, “Participants included two ladies who teach at the Maskwacis Cultural College. They really appreciated that this program is Christian-based as opposed to "worldly" or "new age" and especially the emphasis on Scripture memorization with gestures. Sharing their stories and finding parallels in the Joseph story was a real hit. One young father was clearly impacted by the group and said: "This has helped me understand healing and given me tools to help others". The two ladies are interested in continuing prayer and possibly becoming facilitators themselves.” Praise God!

Eastern Lawa

The Eastern Lawa team participated in the annual Wilanka Lawa cultural festival in February. They set up a booth with tables and materials on display for people to interact with. The goal was to increase exposure to the written Lawa language materials. And the hope was to generate interest from schools or other places where people want to learn to read and write their own language. The booth included many games and hundreds of people visited and had fun playing literacy games involving written Lawa.

Praise God that a team from Wycliffe Canada visited the Lawa office and spent time learning about the project, hearing about the impact and praying for the team.

Thank you for your prayer

⚬ Thank you praying for Rosie Blok’s heart issues over the past year. Praise God she had an ablation surgery in mid-March and has recovered well from that.

Community Testing Session

⚬ The team worked through a team check for 1st and 2nd Peter. Praise God the books have been checked and they are ready for community testing. Pray for three or more people for the community testing who haven't been involved in the drafting and who are available and capable to answer questions.

⚬ Greg and Rosie Blok hope to spend time in Thailand to continue to serve the Eastern Lawa people and translation team. Praise God! Bloks have booked upcoming flights to Thailand. They will attend the workshop for translation consultant development in July. And the translation team will also be able to attend and that the book of James is ready for consultant checking! Pray that will find two suitable people who are not from the team - to help with being uninitiated testers for the workshop. Pray the Blok’s truck and computers will be ready to use when they arrive in Thailand.

AIDIA

In Southern and Northern Pastaza, remote monitoring was carried out through reports from local leaders. Despite connectivity limitations in some communities, the reports confirmed that the pilot program is functioning properly, and subsequent trips will be made to continue the work in the jungle communities. Praise God!

In Southern Pastaza, during the month of November, a week-long leadership training was held in the Christian Alliance Church community, using the  Understanding the Christian Faith material. Thirty people participated, including leaders and church members, making it a time of learning and strengthening of faith.

The translation team gives thanks to God that facilitator Yuliño's November trip to Southern Pastaza went smoothly and was encouraging and uplifting for the leaders and translators.

Praise God for the completion of these translation tasks in the Southern Pastaza translation of Matthew to Romans: first draft, team check, local speaker check, and incorporation of editing notes.

Prayer Updates

Let us pray for the health and well-being of the entire community of Pastaza, especially the children and the elderly. Let us also ask God to provide better living conditions, such as housing, access to water, and other basic needs.

Let us pray for the leaders in Apurímac and the jungle region, that God may strengthen them and that they may remain steadfast in the Lord’s work, and for all that God is doing through the use of water filters in the jungle.

Bali revision team singing before testing the latest translation

It is amazing to read how the young people in the Bali community are involved in the language work. One young person opened a WhatsApp group to promote the Bali language among young Bali speakers. Bali youth are also dedicating themselves to composing Scripture-based songs in the Bali language.

Literacy program for church leaders

More encouraging news from the field is that pastors are requesting portions of Scripture in Bali - from the Bible translation office - in order to prepare their Sunday sermons. We are told that if the congregation doesn't hear the passage read in Bali, they are not happy that Sunday!

Praise God for the recent translation work that includes adding 52 words to the dictionary, consultant-checking Revelation 1-16, adding Ephesians to the Bible app and preparing 25 hymns for printing.

Pray for the translation team’s goals to complete the consultant check of Revelation 17-22, maintain the Bafwasende palm grove, write and distribute the bi-monthly prayer bulletin, organize a special fundraising Sunday, add Ephesians and 1 & 2 Peter to the website and record Ephesians and 1 & 2 Peter in audio. The hope is to also add sermons, songs and hymns to the website and record audio for the same.

⚬ Pray for the challenge of waiting for both radio stations in the area to be repaired; many people want to hear the Scriptures read on the radio.

⚬ Pray for the Bali literacy teacher, Pastor Bayasana Athanase, who continues to suffer from his stroke.

⚬ Pray for the safety of the DRC which continues to deteriorate. There is a flood of displaced people in Bafwasende, sleeping under the open sky.

⚬ Pray for good effectiveness for the next project planning session that is currently underway.

⚬ Pray for the third consultant checking session of Revelation chapter 17-22 and for its preparations.

Wycliffe Thai Foundation

Tik is a single young man who served as an intern with Wycliffe Thai Foundation and was given the opportunity to lead a short-term team to the Kinsha* region. On this trip, he was deeply moved by the needs of the local people. After Tik finished his internship, he continued working with Wycliffe Thai Foundation for a while and had another opportunity to lead a team to the same country. This second trip strengthened his burden even more and his passion to serve the people there continued to grow.

Tik committed himself to learning the local language. His plan was to study the language for one year before moving to the country. However, during his time of study, a war broke out, making it impossible for him to go as planned. He chose to continue studying the language, hoping the situation would improve, but this did not happen. Eventually, Tik decided to go into the country to learn the language directly. He placed his hope and effort into studying at a local university. With strong passion and commitment, he successfully completed two years of language study. Now, having finished this season of preparation, he is praying and seeking God’s direction for the next step in serving the people of that country. Pray for Tik in his efforts and dedication to serving for Christ.

Pray for Taew (Wycliffe Thai Foundation member) as she begins sharing her ministry in the Chinese-Thai church. Pray that the church members will understand the work and want to be part of the ministry.

Isan Oral Bible Storying: Khun Lamyai first heard that ‘Jesus is a powerful and mighty one who came to help humanity’ when she was about ten years old. Now at the age of 74, she had never since heard the story of God. On the day the Isan Oral Bible Translation team brought the translated stories for a community check, Khun Lamyai heard the story of Jesus once more. Joy shared the gospel and challenged Khun Lamyai in her faith, saying, ‘God has shown you grace and is giving you another opportunity—by allowing you to hear the gospel clearly once more before the end of your life.’ Two weeks later, Khun Lamyai decided to believe and welcomed Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Praise God!

Khun Lamyai in prayer

⚬ Pray for the Isan team goals to organize monthly prayer and fellowship meetings with local churches and help the churches recognize the value of using Scripture accurately and more effectively. Pray also for the goal to host training workshops on translating different literary genres in the Gospel of Luke.

Northern Thai

At a recent Bible translation conference the Northern Thai Lanna team helped to organize a booth and manage Zoom sessions. This allowed them to see ministry work involving collaborators from many countries, observe the Bible translations process, and further develop their English language skills.

Lanna Kid’s Club update: The club had its first activities after the Lanna office moved into the community. The team invited a group of interested participants to join a three-day reading and writing program that focused on Lanna script literacy, as well as reading the Bible and other books in the Lanna language. Participants read the story of the prodigal son from the gospel of Luke. Many shared that Jesus’ teachings are beautiful and full of forgiveness. It was a very touching experience.

Praise God the children are able to remember the Bible stories they are learning at Lanna Kid’s Club and are sharing them with their classmates.

⚬ Pray for all the children and adults who come to the Lanna Center - that they will sense God's presence and love and grow in their knowledge and love for the Lord.

⚬ Pray for the goal to teach adult classes as well as train some school teachers to read, write and teach Lanna. The team also plans to have reading groups to follow up after the classes.

⚬ Pray the Lanna team members will also continue to grow stronger in their faith and in their relationships as team members.

⚬ Thank you for praying for JaJa as she completed her internship. Praise God she finished well and is now preparing to return to her home area to serve her community by starting a literacy program in her mother tongue, Sgaw Karen.  She plans to apply to Wycliffe Thailand Foundation over the coming year with the plan of serving on a team in a neighboring country in the future.
